Oct. 2007 - Press Release - Dave Toolan and Stuart Hamilton

BRITISH MEN WALK ACROSS AMERICA TO STUDY AMERICANS

Two British men, David Toolan 34 and Stuart Hamilton 33, are walking across America and are scheduled to reach the Pacific coast at Point Reyes National Seashore north of San Francisco on Friday, Nov. 2. They expect to end their adventurous hike at Limantour Beach at about 5pm. They chose to generally follow the American Discovery Trail (ADT), a 5,000 mile coast-to-coast route that passes through 13 states. They also took side trips to Las Vegas, Reno and the Burning man Festival.

They left Cape Henlopen, Delaware in January 2006, hiked westward, and reached Kansas City in October. They flew to England for the winter and then flew back to resume their hike in May 2007.

They are trying to learn about how Americans think by talking to people in cities, towns and small villages off the beaten track. Stuart is writing a book on Americansâ views of Europe and Europeans post 911 and whether or not the events of that day and the subsequent response of the European countries-and the invasion of Iraq-have changed the way Americans think of their allies in old and new Europe.

Visit their web site http://www.walkingthestates.com/journal.asp?cat=9n.%20October%202007 to read their hilarious daily hike journal laced with British humor.
