Hello fellow travelers. I have adjusted my anticipated embarkation date to May 10, 2015 since I am attempting to finish my AA degree before I go. That will be five-ten-fifteen so it sounds like a lucky number. I have also started a website called http://bonnieswalk.us and a facebook page (bonnieswalk) to journal my training, preparations, and journey. The website is still under construction. Wish me luck! Thanks :)
Hi everyone, I'm a single, out-of-shape 56-year-old in Tampa, FL. For over two years, it has been my dream to embark on a wandering spiritual quest around this great nation of ours. I just stumbled upon Nate Damm's book and the ADT - I had NO idea it existed. But I am now planning my cross-country journey for March 1 or April 1, 2015. I will go East to West, taking the south trail, probably taking a detour to Philly. If there are any other single women out there who have or are planning to hike the ADT, please contact me and perhaps we can form a group. I started training today with a 50- minute walk - would've been an hour, but my 8-yo mutt refused to budge the last ten minutes. Wish us luck!!!
Met Ron "Zen Quake" Dobra back in 8/13 on the trail. He stopped in for coffee at our shop in Cincinnati. I am hoping to hear from him and how it has gone since.
Best trial in america
I take my hat off to all who set out to battle this task....I am planning this now to run the entire thing...I am a runner....35 years to the date and know it can be done
I met 2 ADT hikers at church today, JC and Melanie. Good Luck on the rest
of your trip! God Bless!

Hi Emily Johnston,
Yes Matt Parker finished this trail, the first person ever!, in 2005. Please visit http://www.discoverytrail.org/news/parker/ and http://www.rideofpassage.com/ to learn more. It sounds like quite an ordeal as he had to cut new trails in some places. Ideally with a sound and fit horse it may be possible to complete this journey in about 1 year if you ride about 10 miles each day (and have great weather). I highly recommend learning about endurance riding before you go. The sport has taught me a lot about riding properly and looking for the small signs that my horse may need extra attention.
I live close to c&o canal and met a guy name Noah who was walking the a d t he started in Delaware and had made it to cumberland by the day before Easter good luck on your travels noah
I work in Williamsport, MD and walk the towpath everyday, year round, and today I met a very interesting woman, Cynthia, who allowed me to share her walking time with her. Cynthia is walking the ADT and started about 3 weeks ago in DE. I was amazed and envious of her fortitude. Even though we only shared about 30 minutes together, she left me with a feeling that anything is possible. Good luck, Cynthia, and have a safe trip.
I am staring the trail on May 5th! I am brining my dog, I have a 40 day supply of dog food and a 70 supply of food for me. Are cities close enough for restocking?
Also please like and share my page on Facebook!
Thanks for you support!
Just giving an update. We are currently at Greenbelt Park, MD and we will hike through Washington D.C. tomorrow. We have spent the last three days touring D.C. with some friends we met along the way. Lord willing we will be at the C&O Canal tomorrow evening. Happy Hiking
I will be staring the trail in DE on May 5th. I am a Veteran and I am walking this trail to raise awareness for Homeless Veterans. Here is my link.
Have been giving good consideration and planning towards riding the ADT on horseback this upcoming year. Anyone ridden its entirety? Or know where I could connect with someone who has?
It looks like we will be on the trail the week of March 21st 2014. We have gotten almost all of our gear. Still trying to figure out mail drops. Thank you for any advice & best wishes to all the fellow hikers!
